Drivers Get Peace of Mind with the New Lexus Enform™ with Safety Connect™ System
Lexus recently unveiled its all-new telematics system, Lexus Enform™ with Safety Connect™, an optional, subscription-based communications system that, simply put, helps Lexus drivers to stay more connected and secure on the road. Available since August 2009, the system is offered with select 2010 Lexus models, including the HS 250h, IS sedans, LX 570, and RX 350 and RX 450h.
The foundation of Lexus’s new telematics system is Safety Connect, which provides four fundamental safety and security features. An in-vehicle Emergency Assistance Button (or SOS, as it is shown in the vehicle), connects drivers to a 24/7 Lexus response center for assistance and support in case of on-the-road emergencies, while Automatic Collision Notification automatically places a call to the response center in the event of airbag deployment or a severe rear-end collision. In both cases, response center agents make use of embedded cellular and GPS technology to contact the driver, determine the vehicle’s location, assess the circumstances, and, if needed, request a dispatch of local emergency services to the vehicle’s location.
Safety Connect also provides Enhanced Roadside Assistance, a supplement to the standard, warranty-based service that comes with every new Lexus vehicle. Safety Connect enhances these services by adding GPS data so that response center agents can more easily dispatch assistance to the vehicle’s location. Drivers can request this assistance via the vehicle’s SOS button.
The system also includes Stolen Vehicle Location, which helps increase vehicle security. If a subscribed Lexus vehicle is stolen, the driver can contact the Lexus response center (after filing a police report), where agents will work with the authorities to help track the vehicle using the embedded cellular and GPS technology.
Safety Connect is available on telematics-equipped Lexus models with and without navigation.
LEXUS ENFORM PREMIUM SERVICES
The Lexus Enform system includes the four Safety Connect services, plus two other premium convenience services.
Destination Assist helps drivers find destinations by providing 24/7 access to the Lexus response center. How it works: While on the road, drivers can place a call to the response center via an on-board cellular device, using either voice commands or the navigation screen. The response center agent will help locate a specific address, a business by name, or other locations, such as hotels, gas stations, and even Zagat-rated restaurants, and then wirelessly send the coordinates to vehicle’s navigation system for route guidance.
eDESTINATION, the other convenience feature, is pure Lexus innovation. With this service, drivers can plan trips from any computer—selecting and organizing destinations into folders online and then sending them wirelessly to their vehicle’s navigation system. Two hundred locations can be sent at one time and, once downloaded, can be stored in the vehicle for easy route guidance. Drivers simply use the exclusive search tool, available on the Lexus Drivers website, to search for, sort, store, and send handpicked destinations to their vehicles. They can even include any desired personalized notes and information about their locations—all of which will appear in the vehicle after downloading.
Lexus Enform with Safety Connect is available on only select 2010 Lexus models equipped with navigation. Drivers can choose to subscribe to either Safety Connect alone on these models, or to Lexus Enform with Safety Connect to receive the full suite of services.
Lexus Insider™ is an optional service available without a subscription to Lexus Enform-equipped models. This new tool broadcasts in-vehicle audio articles, which range from Lexus technology how-tos to exclusive owner benefits to insights into exciting travel destinations. Those who don’t wish to receive Lexus Insider articles can easily opt out of the service.
Lexus Enform vehicles also offer several available XM services. XM NavTraffic® keeps drivers abreast of current traffic conditions with real-time traffic displays right on the navigation screen. When traffic problems are detected, the system alerts the driver, who can then avoid them. Also, XM NavWeather provides near-real-time weather conditions on an easy-to-read weather map screen, as well as one-day audio forecasts and three-day forecasts on the navigation screen. Both forecasts rely on official National Weather Service data.
A new service launching with Lexus Enform is XM® Sports and Stocks, which provides in-vehicle updates on drivers’ favorite sports teams and investments—helping drivers stay connected while on the road. Drivers can receive game results and schedules for up to five selected national league sports teams, as well as reports on up to 10 personally selected stocks. Drivers can access the reports either by using the navigation system or the voice command system.
XM services require separate XM subscriptions. The XM Sports and Stocks service is included with an XM® radio subscription. All XM services offer included 90-day trial subscriptions.
Available beginning Fall 2009 on select Lexus models. Contact with the Lexus Enform response center is dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability, navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, which can limit the ability to reach the response center or receive support. Enrollment and Telematics Subscription Service Agreement required. The one-year trial subscription is available only with new vehicle purchase of Lexus Enform-equipped vehicles. Additional subscription terms available; charges vary by subscription term selected.
Lexus Enform premium services Destination Assist and eDestination will function in the contiguous United States and Washington, D.C. These services may also function in Hawaii and limited areas of Alaska for vehicles that contain map data for those states. They will not function in Canada or in other countries outside the United States.
Safety Connect services will function in the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, and in Canada. The services will not function outside of the United States in countries other than Canada.
The navigation system is designed to assist in locating an address or point of interest. XM NavTraffic® requires a monthly service fee and hardware and is designed to provide real-time traffic or alternative routes of travel. Discrepancies may be encountered between the system and your actual location. Road system changes may affect the accuracy of the information provided. Rely on your common sense to decide whether to follow a specified route. Detailed coverage not available in every city or roadway. Periodic Navigation updates available at an additional cost. See your Navigation System Owner's Manual for further details.
