03/01/2013—Last year, Lexus conducted its first Lexus Design Awards contest, and exactly 1,243 submissions were sent in from around the world. This week Lexus announced 12 winners from that group, including these intriguing creations:
This is different take on the tent. Created by Abeer Seikaly of Canada and Jordan, the design is a structural fabric that “weaves tent shelters into communities.”
This one, from Mani Zamani of Iran, is called the Calm Kayak, and it’s designed to create a floating platform for “reflection” and deep thought.
This is the KLAVA lamp from Italy’s Rudi Davi, which is “always in balance” to offer “precise illumination.”
All of these prototypes, as well as the panel displays of the other 10 winning entries—which include an electric scooter the folds up and a device that eases mass-transit-platform crowding—will be exhibited in the Lexus space at Milan Design Week in April 2013.
